On Thursday September 21st we had an open house and barbeque
to show off our new fertilizer facility to local growers and customers. Marvin
and Mike “Basco” did a great job of getting the word out and we had a better
than expected turnout. Thanks to everyone throughout the Metz Facility who did
such a great job of cleaning up and getting the entire facility looking so good
that day. We had good feedback from those who attended and it made us all proud
of our nice new facility.

We had great participation in our Company sponsored Salsa Contest on Friday the
15th with entries from both stores (winners were Lori from King City & Patty
from Prunedale), San Lucas (Tony was the winner), Fertilizer division (winner
was Armando), Wholesale (winner was Frylon), Metz Mill (Jose Luis was winner),
Shop (Al was the winner, and Metz office (Michelle was the winner). The
following Monday all the winners made another batch of salsa for our
finalist’s contest. About 50 attended on Monday evening at the Metz shop and
enjoyed some Swiss sausage along with the salsa and chips. Everyone there then
voted for their favorite salsa from the eight finalists. When the votes were
counted Al came in first and Armando came in second.
Armando’s
salsa was entered into Saturday’s contest and Armando had his crew there
bright and early to begin preparing their salsa. Their great recipe competed
against about 20 other entries and won the peoples choice award. Congratulations
to Armando.
Al’s
salsa was entered into the professional category on Sunday and also competed
against about 20 other contestants. Al had a good crew to help him prepare their
very tasty salsa. They even managed to cook up a few burritos on the barbeque
after Al finished cooking all his peppers, tomatoes etc. Although Al didn’t
win he put up a great salsa and vowed he would come back with an even better
recipe next year.
Those
who attended the Salsa Fest in King City on September the 23rd and 24th had a
great time at this fun family event. Hats off to everyone who participated and
did a great job of representing L.A. Hearne Company with their entries in the
Salsa Challenge.
